The value of life lies in its finality, every cliche about living each day like it’s your last, etc.
Side note: would wholeheartedly recommend Sinners, as it’s a very layered movie but there’s a central theme of legacy since it is a vampire movie, and duh, immortality. But also added themes of music and what it means to “sell your soul”. I can’t stop thinking about it personally!
Definitely would recommend, especially seeing in theaters if you have the opportunity. Clearly a labor of love with stunning cinematography and music meant to be experienced in high quality per Ryan Coogler's viralish breakdown of the different available formats. It's instantly seared in my brain and one I'll be revisiting again and again to further unpack.
Having worked in Broadcasting, both for Television and Cable, for more than thirty years, I can agree that any Season 4 should never be 'developed'!! And sometimes 'do-overs' only work in childhood games! While it's true that none of us have a crystal ball for the direction of how our lives will 'play out' or if there will be 'repeats' or 'mystery' of the unknown, I do believe that every step we take leads us to the next 'frame' our lives will record! (There are 30 'frames' in each and every second of time-corded video, but a lot can happen in that 'space'!!) Sometimes, it becomes healthy for us to 'change' our route in Life, and to take the 'road less travelled' where we are not familiar with the road we have so often trodden! We should all look forward to the next adventure that will take us toward another realm in our 'not-too-distant' future - no matter our age! We can choose to believe that everything truly is written in the stars, or we can decide to trudge a different and unique path - the choice remains ours - and what lies within us!!
I have been thinking about this post a lot (Sinners inspired a lot of introspection), and there’s a lot of allure in a show that was “gone too soon” or cancelled before its prime. I recently rewatched an old favorite of mine, Pushing Daisies. A two season twee wonder that’s very of its time, in both good and bad. People constantly push for a revival series but it wouldn’t be quite the same because it was meant to be contemporary to its time. People love their comfort watches and rewatching something can provide different rewards, sometimes, but endlessly rehashing the same stories just leads to circling the drain and becomes mind numbing because it’s the same conclusion each time. And it’s unsatisfying when it’s clear someone didn’t believe in the vision so something didn’t get to resolve how it was meant to. We like narratives that end neatly, with a satisfying climax and tidy conclusion but the bigger story lives in on the possibilities that people imagine for the future. Living on in fan art, fan fiction, or some weird pop cultural mishmash all their own. Sometimes it’s not about legacy, but it’s about what it means in the here and now to the kids who are there in the moment and what that can spark in the future.
I also say this to you, specifically because your writing #onhere has sparked something in me, as it did back in 2007 or whatever when I first chanced on EOTC on myspace. Lucy Gray was an important album for me, and I thought for a second last year when the Hunger Games prequel came out bearing the same name, it was related to some kind of resurgence. It was the spark that compelled me to see what you were now up to after losing the thread when my music tastes shifted.

Definitely adding to my list. Love all things morality based. Thank you!

Resonated like a mf. Stuck the landing super well on this one, appreciate how well you've captured things here
